Jaguar Racing’s Sam Bird demonstrated his exceptional driving skills when he won the second round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Navigating the city’s historic surrounds in a thrilling night race by street light, Bird secured his debut victory for Jaguar.

Starting the race on the second row, decisive driving saw Bird progress into second place. He spent much of the race battling with his old teammate Robin Frijns, showcasing the versatile pace and dynamic performance of the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 as he attacked and defended. In a race with multiple incidents, Bird ultimately triumphed and claimed a decisive victory for Jaguar.

After two podiums in two races, Jaguar Racing leaves Saudi Arabia seven points ahead in the ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship. Sam Bird’s win means he retains his streak as the only driver to have won a race in every Formula E season.

James Barclay, Team Director, Jaguar Racing, was thrilled with the team’s performance, saying: “An absolutely fantastic way to start the season…[it’s] a really brilliant start for Jaguar in this most incredibly competitive world championship.”

On a high after his win, Sam Bird said, “I’m so incredibly happy right now. Jaguar have let me into their family and taught me new things...although there were some challenges, we’ve worked for this result.”

The third round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship takes place in Rome on 10 April 2021, with Bird looking ahead to the fresh challenges of racing through the city streets of the Italian capital.
