Jaguar team near the F1 racing car

Jaguar TCS Racing has produced a solid result in the opening round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The high performance race took place in Saudi Arabia at the Diriyah E-Prix, and saw Sam Bird finish fourth, narrowly missing out on a place on the podium.

Competing in the group stages of the new qualifying format, Sam secured a place in the quarter-finals, which then saw him go head-to-head with fellow Englishman Jake Dennis driving the Avalanche Andretti in the new ‘Duel’ race. Lining up fifth on the grid for Formula E’s third thrilling night race, Sam demonstrated his impressive driving and defending skills, bringing his Jaguar I-TYPE 5 over the finish line in fourth.

After a strong start in Qualifying Group A, Mitch Evans had to settle for fourteenth on the grid. But during the race a number of decisive and skilfully executed overtakes saw Evans gain four places and grab a final point-scoring position.

James Barclay, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal said, “Fourth position for Sam was a great result and if a few things had worked out slightly differently we could have been in a position to try and fight for the podium as well…Starting P14, Mitch had a big job in the race but he made great progress to secure a point - always important in a long championship.”

After the first round, the double-points finish sees Jaguar TCS Racing take fourth place in the standings - a strong foundation to build upon as the season gets underway.
