Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans has claimed his third victory of the season in an edge-of-your-seat race at the Jakarta E-Prix. The first Formula E held in South East Asia’s most populous city, the Indonesian fans were in for a treat as the drivers navigated a challenging purpose-built track at heart-racing speeds.

After a successful qualifying session, Evans lined up third on the grid and held his position as the lights went green. Skillful manoeuvring saw him edge ahead of António Félix Da Costa, before doing strategic battle with Jean-Éric Vergne and Edoardo Mortara. With six minutes to go, Evans took the lead after a thrilling overtake on Vergne, and maintained the lead until the chequered flag fell. Along with this decisive victory, Evans also secured the fastest lap of the race, showcasing the pace of the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 under tough conditions.

Sam Bird was also able to score valuable points for Jaguar TCS Racing, by carving his way through the other competitors from his starting position of fourteenth to finish in ninth. Once again the Jaguar I-TYPE 5’s dynamic performance was demonstrated as Bird made eight overtakes to move up the field.

With impressive results achieved in Jakarta, Evans remains fourth in the drivers’ standings, now just twelve points behind leader Stoffel Vandoorne. Jaguar TCS Racing is a solid fourth in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship teams’ standings.

After his win, Evans said, “It feels amazing to get my third win of the season. Physically today was really quite difficult, the temperature and humidity were both really high, but we managed to get our strategy right for pretty much the whole race. The balance of the I-TYPE 5 was incredible.” A pleased James Barclay, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal, said, “It’s been a fantastic day for the team here at the inaugural Jakarta E-Prix. Jaguar TCS Racing will aim to build on its success at the tenth round of the 2022 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which takes place in Marrakesh, Morocco on the 2 July 2022.
